Surgical Section

Welcome to the website of the Surgical Section of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.

Goal

The goal of this website is to inform clients and referring veterinarians about the surgical staff and the philosophy of our surgical service.

Mission statement

To be a leading international centre for the treatment of surgical diseases in companion animals and a world class surgical training institute for veterinary students, surgical residents and veterinarians, alike.

The main objectives are:

Education

  • Enhance educational opportunities for students enrolled in the veterinary curriculum at KVL and improve educational techniques and innovations in educational skills.
  • Maintain a surgical residency, in which young veterinarians are trained to become specialised surgeons and obtain European College of Veterinary Surgeons board certification.
  • Provide post academic training for veterinarians.

Research

  • Stimulate new and innovative research to improve the quality of life of our patients.
  • Set up collaborations with other research facilities within and outside of the university.
  • Maintain a PhD programme for young, promising veterinarians that aspire further training in surgical related research.

Clinical excellence

  • Provide up-to-date and excellent surgical care for our patients.
  • Supply a caring and compassionate surgical service to our clients.
  • Develop innovative techniques to decrease morbidity during and after surgery.
  • Cultivate faculty that are experts in clinical research and that actively participate in research to improve new surgical therapies.
  • Provide the highest standard of professionalism to students, patients, clients and colleagues.
